Stock & Associates was hired to remodel an existing 3,800 sq. ft. teaching and research lab within a chemistry building originally built in the 1930's. The immediate use for the research lab will be for the study of photonics, however, it has been designed to support three different upper-division chemistry labs with any two being able to operate at the same time. The main challenge was figuring out how to incorporate existing dated technology, mechanical and electrical systems with new technology and current standards. Our goal was to retain the qualities of a great building but integrate them with the new in such a way that is consistent with the needs of a modern chemistry lab. Development of Building Standards are currently being defined.
