Our renovation of this 50's era rambler in the Broadmoor neighborhood
addressed the idea of ‘openness’ in several ways. First, we provided a
seamless connection to the outdoors. This was achieved by replacing existing
windows to the rear of the house with a commercial storefront system, effectively
opening up that entire façade to allow light and views to pass through unhindered.
This storefront system included a large operable sliding panel which, when open,
will allow unrestricted flow between interior and exterior. Then, at the interior,
we revised the existing segmented floorplan to allow for a seamless interaction between
the living, dining and kitchen areas. Similarly, the master bathroom and walk-in closet
were altered to provide a greater sense of space and flow. Local artisans were engaged
for the finer details, including quarter-sawn sapele kitchen cabinetry, Brandycrag slab countertops,
welded steel railings, screens and support details, and hand-made glass tiles.
